Meta’s New Subscription Tiers: Financial Drain or Good Investment?
When we say the world of social media is constantly changing... we weren't kidding. Meta has recently expanded its paid verification service for businesses, rolling out three new tiers that offer additional perks to companies willing to pay a monthly subscription. But is it worth the investment? We're not entirely convinced.
Let's break it down. Under the new structure, the basic “standard” plan costs $14.99/month. For this price, you get a verification badge, higher ranking in search, impersonation protection, the ability to add links to reels, and access to customer support. It's the same cost for businesses as it is for individuals, but the question remains: is it truly beneficial?
Then there are the higher tiers. The $44.99/month “plus” plan, the $119.99 “premium” plan, and the $349.99/month “max” plan each come with extra features like adding links to Reels posts, faster customer support, and more profile customization options. The most expensive plan even includes expanded impersonation protection for up to five employees, semiannual account reviews with personalized content strategy guidance, and the ability to request phone calls from Meta customer service representatives for help with account issues.
The Positive Takeaways From The New Meta Subscription Tiers:
The ability to add links to reels
Direct line to Meta’s notoriously difficult customer support
Impersonation protection
The Downside Of The New Meta Subscription Tiers:
The subscription packages are expensive. It would cost a company just under $700 for both their Facebook and Instagram accounts to be under the top tier. (Remember this is $349.99 per account)
These programs are still in their infancy so there is limited data on their effectiveness on providing more reach.
At the end of the day, these subscriptions are an extra expense that may not yield the returns you're hoping for. While the additional features and support are nice, they don't fundamentally change the quality of your content or the organic growth of your audience. Investing in these plans could end up being more of a financial drain than a strategic advantage.
